How are you going to fill your 168 hrs a week…in retirement?

168 hours per week…30 years…3 decades…262,080 hours

That’s a looong time to keep busy.

The modern retirement can span 20 to 30 years and maybe even more dependent on health.

It’s no longer a vision of spending endless days on the park bench.

That was your parent’s and grandparent’s retirement.

Retirees today are more active than ever, healthier than ever (even though some would say otherwise).

You have more to achieve in retirement than just sitting around on a park bench.

It’s now all about time freedom.

Freedom to choose what you do with time rather than be dictated by your job or business.

Depending on what stage you are at, you could have it all panned out, have a rough idea or very little.

Half the battle is knowing how to work it all out no matter the level of assets you own.

You may have already tried or you could be sitting there frustrated by all the different options.

Many advisers in our industry still focus solely on the investing of money prior to knowing the life you want to live.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s an important aspect, but there are more important discussions that must come before you put the cart before the horse.

Once you clearly know where you want to go the rest becomes pretty clear.

Sometimes all you need is someone to help you sort out the wheat from the chaff…

Recently one of my clients received a large inheritance.

When I told her how much she was receiving, she sunk back in her chair and stayed quiet for a little bit.

I asked if everything was ok, she replied, “I’m just trying to process it, I didn’t think it was going to be that much”.

She’s a single retired lady who relocated back from the UK a number of years ago.

Unfortunately, her husband had passed away a number of years prior to returning.   She never had any children.

She was in a great financial position, however, this inheritance (from her deceased parents in law) was a massive shock and amplified her financial position where she will never need to worry about money ever again.

While we are not big fans of wasting and being irresponsible with money, we initiated discussions around how this money could make her life better, or those around her, things she had never ever thought of.

It started to open her eyes to what was possible rather than how do I invest the money?

You see, it doesn’t matter how much money you have, it’s all about the life you can live with the financial resources you have, after all, that’s what matters to most of us.

Either way, the exercise we have included in this post today will help you go a long way to working out your retirement vision even if you have no idea…

But here’s the thing, none of this is any good unless you take action, an action that will make your dream become reality.

Sure, you can sit there and research every single strategy under the sun, but unless you implement something, progress never happens.

We don’t want that for you…

We’re here by your side to guide you and provide the right information that will help you create a solid foundation and not one built on sand.

Your progress is dependent on the habits you implement, even the smallest, and there the easy ones.

You see, it’s the little micro-actions your making that will help you make real progress.

The fact you are here and reading this and hopefully, go on to complete the short worksheet, you’ve just taken the first step towards making your best life a reality.

Many micro-actions and you’ll have it in the bag.

So, it’s time to dream like a kid again, don’t hold back, we don’t want you to miss anything.

There’s time for fine-tuning later.

Instructions on how to complete the worksheet:

#1 We’ve broken the retirement lifestyle in 4 categories, Vocation, Vacation, Relaxation, and Recreation.  Pick the ones you value most.

#2 Pick up to 6 (if you have more great), and a least one from each category.

#3 One page 2 you’ll find a worksheet the ones that are most important to you.  There’s room for six, but if you have more write them on the back of the page.

#4 Write a sentence or two describing each vision and then a sentence on why this is important to you.
